Did you know STD and STI symptoms often go undetected?
Your health matters. Get tested and know for sure.
Just because someone says they are clean (not infected) ; doesn’t mean they’ve been tested. They may think they are clean, but in reality, they aren’t.
Just because you don’t see any symptoms of infection doesn’t mean the infections aren’t there. Some STD/STI have no symptoms and can go undetected until you are tested.
What are some common symptoms?
- painful urination
- bumps
- Itching
- abnormal discharges
- sores or ulcers on genital area
- other unusual new symptoms that get worse or don’t go away
STDs can be viral or nonviral. STDs/STIs are infections passed from one person to another during sexual activity such as vaginal, oral, or anal sex. Viral STDs are not curable.
But I always use a condom…
Using a condom doesn’t provide you 100% protection against STDs (60-85%)
Is there a cure?
Non-viral STDs can be treated and cured if caught in a timely manner. Viral STDs are not curable, meaning they may be with you for life. Many of the symptoms of non-viral STDs may be treatable; however, it is something that you may have to deal with for the long haul.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year in this country, half among young people ages 15 – 24.
